Assisted Living Center, Inc. - Affordability

What What is the cost for assisted living and how do residents pay for it?

The cost of Assisted Living involves several aspects: a rental component, food, basic services, and optional services and amenities. Currently, the pricing for most private pay Assisted Living residences in Massachusetts range from approximately $3,000 to $6,000 per month, depending on the size of the unit and the amount and type of services provided. The average one-room unit with services at other facilities cost $3,800 per month.

At ALCI, our rates range from $950 per month (GAFC Program) to $2,775 (private pay rate) per month.

Programs That Make Assisted Living Affordable

The Assisted Living Center of Salisbury is committed to keeping our facility affordable so that low-income elders do not have to choose between living alone unsafely and being prematurely placed in a nursing home because they cannot afford assisted living. Unlike the many other assisted living facilities that are opening around the region that gear their rates to the wealthier populations, we have made a commitment to do our very best to keep costs down and to participate in programs that subsidize the cost for lower income elders.

To accomplish that goal, we participate in two programs that make our facility affordable to many who could not afford other facilities. Both programs are based on income and assets; our room and board rate is based on a percentage of income.

Group Adult Foster Care Program

In Massachusetts, Medicaid's Group Adult Foster Care program (GAFC) will cover some of the cost of assisted living services for financially and clinically eligible individuals. The GAFC program provides reimbursement to ALCI for providing you with personal care services on a daily basis. This amount - when combined with Supplemental Security Income for Assisted Living (SSI-G) - will cover the full cost of your room, board and personal care, and will leave you with approximately $127 per month for your personal expenses, shopping and activities.

Supplemental Security Income for Assisted Living

Supplemental Security Income for Assisted Living (SSI-G) is a joint federal and state program intended to guarantee elders a minimum income, regardless of contributions to the Social Security system and resulting benefits. SSI-G supplements an individual's monthly income to assure that they can afford the room and board portion of assisted living costs.
