Assisted Living Center - Salisbury

We are a Community of Caring

Assisted Living Center - Salisbury has been a trusted name on the seacoast for over ten years, providing quality assisted living care to residents from Maine to Massachusetts.

Our Salisbury facility - one of the first nonprofit assisted living facilities in New England - opened in July 1994 with the unique concept of providing residential care that is affordable to all. Our success in achieving that goal has earned us the reputation of being the leader in the affordable assisted living industry.

The lifestyle we encourage is the ideal alternative to the isolation and challenges of living alone in your own home, your lack of privacy in larger retirement facilities, or your premature placement in a nursing home. While our thirty-unit facility is small enough to maintain quality individualized personal care and assure your privacy and independence, we are large enough to offer friendship and social interaction when you want companionship.

We understand that you want to be as active and independent as possible while receiving the supportive care you require. We strive to help you maintain the daily living activities you can still manage without our assistance - and we will be there to assist you when you can't quite perform other activities alone.

What is assisted living?

An assisted living residence is a special combination of housing and personalized care designed to permit frail elderly individuals requiring help with activities of daily living (ADL's) to "age in place" in a home-like setting. Care is provided 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, in a way that promotes maximum independence and dignity for each resident and often involves the resident's family, neighbors, and friends.

What is the philosophy of assisted living?

  • Offer cost-effective quality care that is personalized for individual needs
  • Foster independence for each resident
  • Treat each resident with dignity and respect
  • Promote the individuality of each resident
  • Allow each resident choice of care and lifestyle
  • Protect each resident's right to privacy
  • Nurture the spirit of each resident
  • Involve family and friends, as appropriate, in care planning and implementation
  • Provide a safe, residential environment
  • Make the assisted living residence a valuable community asset

Who is the Typical Assisted Living Resident?

Most assisted living residents are in their mid-80's and need assistance with basic activities such as bathing and dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping, and transportation. Often, residents move to assisted living when they can no longer safely live alone. Many residents experience some cognitive impairment and require supervision and "cueing" or reminders about their daily routine. The majority of residents have been living nearby, usually within a five-mile radius of the residence. The Assisted Living Center - Salisbury believes that accepting residents of various ages enriches our community; therefore, our residents range in age between 50-95.

How is Assisted Living different from congregate senior housing and nursing facilities?

Assisted living fits in the continuum between shared living arrangements such as congregate housing and the more intensive medical and nursing supervision provided by nursing facilities. One of assisted living's defining features is the individualized personal care provided to residents who need assistance with activities of daily living or help (such as reminders) with medications.

Many elders and their families choose the Assisted Living Center - Salisbury because we value the independence and dignity of individual residents while providing cost-effective and needed services in a home-like environment. assisted living, however, does not provide the 24-hour skilled medical services of a nursing facility and should be selected based on a careful assessment of an individual's medical status and functional ability.
